Larry Kanter Annual Professorship
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of North Florida seeks a scholar for the Larry Kanter Annual Professorship. This is a part-time position, renewable for up to 3-5 years, in the Religious Studies program, with a salary comparable to our full-time instructor positions.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and engaging teacher with the ability to teach broadly at the undergraduate level in Jewish Studies, such as “History of Judaism” and other more specialized courses in Jewish Studies relevant to the specific expertise of the scholar hired. The successful candidate will also offer courses in Bible from a historical/social/and cultural perspective (rather than a strictly textual approach) such as “Sociology of the Hebrew Bible.” Candidates should also have competence in theoretical issues in academic study of religion and a primary disciplinary identity in Religious Studies.
Our new colleague will teach three courses per year and have a service assignment equivalent to a fourth course. There will be a small programming budget and an expectation that the successful candidate will organize events and help promote a new Jewish Studies minor.
We envision two possible tracks for this position, a senior scholar who may be approaching retirement (and meets certain requirements of our Collective Bargaining Agreement) or an entry level scholar who would occupy the positon as a post-doctoral fellow.
We encourage applications from women and members of minorities. Please provide a complete dossier, including a letter of application, C.V., at least three letters of recommendation, graduate transcripts, a teaching portfolio and a writing sample that illustrates your approach to religion as an historical/socio/cultural phenomena and your understanding of theoretical issues in the academic study of religion. Deadline for initial consideration of applications is April 24th, 2018. The position will remain open until filled. Applicants must complete a one-page application form online at http://www.unfjobs.org and must upload all required documents above to be considered for this position. Applicants who do not complete the one-page online application form and who do not mail all required documentation will not be considered for this position. UNF is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access/Affirmative Action Institution.
