The School of Arts and Humanities at Ferrum College invites applications and nominations for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of World History with a primary expertise in African or Asian history, chronological focus open. We are particularly interested in a broadly trained historian with additional foci in trade, borderlands studies, migration studies, history of climate and disease, or colonialism. The History program at Ferrum College offers a diverse selection of history courses drawn from major regions of the world over varying time periods. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills and understand the historical development of different cultures, essential skills for both work in history and informed citizenship. Faculty teach a 4/4 teaching load, with optional experiential May term (eTerm). The successful candidate will be expected to have a Ph.D. by August 2018 and must demonstrate a record of college or university teaching experience.
Responsibilities: TEACHING: The dynamic faculty member will teach survey courses, as well as upper division courses for history and social studies majors. Our faculty serve as mentors and advisors to our students and supervise internships. All candidates must provide evidence of ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level and possess a commitment to a robust liberal studies education. SCHOLARSHIP: A successful candidate will provide evidence of ongoing scholarship, publication, and/or presentation activity through appropriate professional venues and involvement in scholarly projects. SERVICE: Our faculty fully participate in leadership activities and fulfill leadership roles pertaining to faculty governance at the College-wide, School, Program, and disciplinary level.
