Lecturer, Non-Tenure, International Studies (Asia)
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Florida, United States |
Position: | Lecturer |
The International Studies Program at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Lecturer with a preferred primary area of specialization in the contemporary economics, history or politics of Asia broadly defined. We are particularly interested in candidates whose area of focus fits with themes such as global health and development, population flows and migration, or human rights. Candidates must hold the Ph.D. by the starting date of August 16, 2018.
The International Studies program is a dynamic interdisciplinary major that provides knowledge of global issues and prepares students for careers in international affairs, global business, public affairs and other specializations requiring language skills, cultural awareness, and understanding of critical international issues. The Lecturer will teach the two core interdisciplinary courses for the International Studies Program, as well as courses fitting his or her specialization.
The successful candidate will teach approximately 3 courses per semester and provide significant service. The exact balance between service and teaching will depend on the needs of the program in a given year. In particular, the successful candidate will be the primary academic advisor to the more than 250 undergraduate students in the international studies major, and advise students on internships and other experiential learning opportunities. We are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and the development of experiential learning programs. As such, we are eager to consider candidates with experience beyond the academic world, including a career in international organizations or non-governmental organizations.
The role of lecturers is highly valued by the college and the university. To encourage and facilitate their professional development, lecturers at the University of Florida are eligible for promotion through the ranks of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Master Lecturer. Lecturer appointments are for 9 months per year and are annually renewable. Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package.
The International Studies program is genuinely committed to creating an environment that affirms diversity across a variety of dimensions, including ethnicity/race, gender identity and expression. We particularly welcome applicants who can contribute to such an environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service. The university and greater Gainesville community enjoy a diversity of culture and social opportunities.
For full consideration, applications must be submitted online at http://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/cw/en-us/listing/ search job 00026958, and must include: (1) a letter of interest, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a teaching portfolio (including a statement of teaching philosophy and sample syllabi), (4) the names and email addresses for three references. To ensure full consideration applications should be completed by that date.
The final candidate will be required to provide an official transcript to the department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered "official" if a designation of "Issued to Student" is visible. Degrees earned from an educational institution outside of the United States require evaluation by a professional credentialing service provider approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.
