Major Work Characteristics/Summary of Position
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Nineteenth-Century US, including Early National, Civil war and Reconstruction, Slavery and/or African American History. Pursue appropriate scholarship, and participate in department, college and university service activities.

The History Department at YSU currently has nine full-time members distributed in fields across the discipline, and offers BA/MA courses/degrees. In addition to our traditional curriculum we offer courses in Applied and Public History and serve as the home of two “endowed” programs, the Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies and the Center for Applied History. We also operate the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor as the managing partner with the Ohio History Connection.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned PhD in History by August 15, 2018. Major field or concentration in Nineteenth-Century US History.
Desired Qualifications
In addition to a primary field and expertise as noted above, preference given to candidates with secondary fields in any of the following:
- Any State History. (Ideally, the successful candidate will eventually offer a course in Ohio History)
- Applied History: Such as Digital Humanities, Historical Editing, Historic Preservation, or Museum Curation.
