The Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level in the history of the Muslim Middle East, broadly interpreted, 7th-15th centuries, to begin September 1, 2018, pending administrative and budgetary approval. The department is seeking candidates who share its interest in historically and textually grounded, comparative and interdisciplinary approaches; can teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including supervision of doctoral dissertations; and complement the research and teaching interests of current faculty members. Candidates must have the Ph.D. by the time of appointment and demonstrate potential for superior scholarly accomplishment.
