The Taub Center for Israel Studies invites applications for a two-year Research Fellowship on the subject:
Transition from Mandate to State: Planning the Institutions and Policies of Israeli statehood, 1947-1948
The aim of the project is to research the planning undertaken to establish a Jewish state in part of Mandatory Palestine following the United Nations vote on Partition in November 1947. The fellowship holder will be required to produce a manuscript of circa 50,000 words (or more) suitable for publication as a monograph. While the necessary research will be done in Israeli archives during the two-year tenure of the fellowship, the recipient will be expected to spend at least one year in residence at the Taub Center in New York City.
The position is suitable for recent PhDs or mid-career scholars on sabbatical leave. Fellowship is $55,000 per year, with limited additional funds for research expenses. In addition to the completion of the manuscript, the Research Fellow will be required to deliver one public lecture in New York on the outcome of the research, and to present the work at appropriate academic conferences.
