The Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Scholar and Lecturer in Arabic Language and Literature. This appointment has a term of one year. It offers recent recipients of the Ph.D. (awarded between January 1, 2015, and June 30, 2017) a unique opportunity to develop their research and teaching interests within the Department of Religious Studies and the Center for Middle East Studies. The Postdoctoral Scholar and Lecturer appointment is designed for a recent Ph.D who has not held the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointee will teach five courses on Arabic language and literature, three of which will be third-year Arabic language (Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters). We are especially interested in candidates who can teach a Qur’anic Arabic course plus a media course in Arabic language or an Arabic literature course. Courses will be offered at the introductory, intermediate and advanced (graduate) levels. A Ph.D. in Religious Studies, Arabic language and literature, Near Eastern or Middle Eastern Studies, or related field is required. This is a temporary appointment.
