Lyman Briggs College (LBC) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a one-year, full-time position for an environmental historian to join the History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Science (HPS) faculty. This is an academic year position (9-month) that begins August 16, 2017. The successful candidate will teach five courses over the academic year.
Founded in 1967, LBC (http://lbc.msu.edu/) is a vibrant residential college that focuses on the study of science and its social contexts. Bridging the two cultures of the sciences and the humanities, the LBC curriculum integrates natural sciences and mathematics courses with courses in the history, philosophy, and sociology of science. Nearly all of the 2000 students in LBC major in the natural sciences; about 60% are women; 25% are students of color; moreover, 25% of LBC students belong to MSU’s Honors College. Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold an MA/MS with teaching expertise in environmental history and a demonstrated commitment to high-quality undergraduate education and scholarly teaching.
Desired Qualifications
A PhD is preferred. Experience in teaching writing-intensive, discussion-based courses is preferred. Experience with innovative, experimental teaching techniques is encouraged. Scholarly and teaching focus on borderlands is welcomed.
