The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA), a campus of the University of Arkansas System, invites applications from qualified candidates for a position in the Outreach Department as a Japanese Instructor beginning August 2017. This is a ten-month, full-time position. ASMSA is a public, residential high school for academically talented and motivated eleventh- and twelfth-grade students from across Arkansas. The Japanese teacher will teach students on the ASMSA campus and at the Lakeside School District. Both are located in Hot Springs Arkansas.
The successful candidate should have teaching experience and a bachelor's degree or higher in Japanese language studies, Japanese Teacher Education, or a related field. In some cases significant appropriate experience may substitute for area of study as guided by Arkansas Department of Education regulation. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and at least three years of teaching experience.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in working with gifted students, teaching through technology, developing interdisciplinary curricula, team planning skills and problem solving skills.
As a residential community of learning, ASMSA’s core philosophy values the development of students’ interests and talents beyond the classroom. As such, faculty are expected to support student research, provide tutoring assistance, facilitate successful transitions for incoming juniors, promote the school through outreach programs and contribute to the residential experience.
The estimated salary range is $42,000 to $47,000. ASMSA is an AA/EOE employer. In addition, the teacher will receive full ASMSA benefits including health insurance, retirement and optional benefits.
