The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professorship in East Asian history, for a one-year appointment beginning in August 2017 (PhD required by the time of appointment). The successful applicant will teach two courses per semester, to include the pre-modern and modern East Asia surveys as well as upper-level courses in line with individual expertise. The ability to teach courses on Modern China is particularly welcome. Salary and benefits are competitive.
The successful applicant will be fully integrated into the life of our department, welcomed to department meetings and events and encouraged to present work-in-progress and collaborate with faculty across campus. The appointee will join a department committed to inspirational teaching and a research university with great strengths in international, transnational, and interdisciplinary area studies. Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the university has embarked on significant initiatives to diversify its faculty, student body, and curriculum. We encourage applications from creative and dedicated scholars, teachers, and mentors eager to contribute to this mission.
