The Department of Jewish Studies at Rutgers University (New Brunswick) seeks a full-time instructor in modern Hebrew language. The instructor’s duties include teaching a 3/3 load of language courses at the Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels (each level consisting of a two-semester sequence) and supervising the Hebrew language program at Rutgers. Responsibilities for the latter include, but are not limited to, overseeing the placement of incoming students, assessing transfer credits, administering language proficiency exams, promoting the study of Hebrew among current and potential students, and representing Hebrew at university meetings and other campus activities concerning language instruction.
Fluency in modern Hebrew and extensive experience in teaching the language at all levels in a college setting is required. Candidates should hold bachelors and masters degrees in an appropriate field, such as Hebrew language, literature, or pedagogy.
