The Art History Program in the School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for one full-time, nine-month, Lecturer position. This appointment requires service for one nine-month academic year. The service dates are August 16, 2017 thru May 15, 2018.
Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include a 3/3 teaching load: three courses each in fall and spring semesters. This includes introductory and advanced undergraduate art history courses, as well as a graduate seminar. Context
The Art History Program consists of nine full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty members, plus adjuncts and affiliated faculty. Degrees offered include the B.A. and B.F.A, as well as the M.A. and Ph.D. Art History graduate courses also support graduate minors in Museum Studies and Medieval Studies. The University Library is the largest among publicly supported educational institutions and one of the largest university libraries in the country. There are two university museums, the Krannert Art Museum and the Spurlock Museum. A Ph.D. in Art History by the start of the appointment is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of successful teaching experience. We seek scholars of historical and/or modern and contemporary African visual cultures who are able to teach introductory and advanced courses in African visual cultures across a range of periods and media, as well as other art history courses that support our curriculum. Those whose research and teaching demonstrate interdisciplinary, comparative transcultural approaches are especially welcome.

4. Two sample course syllabi. One of these should be for "Introduction to African Art," a large-enrollment course that fulfills the University General Education criteria for non-Western cultures. At the University of Illinois students enrolled in this course attend lectures 3 times a week plus 1 weekly section meeting taught by a Teaching Assistant.
