The Center for Political Thought and Leadership (CPTL) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate in social thought and/or political institutions to begin in Fall 2017. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching focuses on ancient and/or early modern Europe and/or American political ideas. This is a full time (1.0) benefits-eligible, fiscal year (July 1-June 30) appointment. Renewal is possible on an annual basis contingent on satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and needs of the program.
The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Center for Political Thought and Leadership, but will have the opportunity to teach within the ASUs School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies (SHPRS). The position carries a 1-1 teaching load. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute a minimum of 10 hours per week to active participation in the activities of the CPTL and to contribute to its development, both at ASU and its wider community setting.
Required qualification: candidates must have a Ph.D. in History, Political Science, or a field relevant to the history of ideas, by the time of the appointment.
Desired qualifications: evidence of achievement and promise in research and writing in social thought, history of ideas, or political institutions, a demonstrated ability to teach introductory and upper level undergraduate courses, in different settings—classroom, online, and hybrid environments.
