General Description
Lenoir Rhyne University seeks candidates to serve as the Lineberger Multicultural Studies Scholar in Residence for fall 2017. This position, sponsored by the Lineberger Center for Cultural an Educational Renewal and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, is intended to provide the candidate with a one-semester opportunity to cultivate a significant research project as well as develop their teaching portfolio. Fields of specialization are open but should fall generally under one of the following headings related to Multicultural Studies: Latino/Chicano Studies, Asian and Asian American Studies, African and African American Studies, Native American Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Gender and Sexuality. As part of the university’s ongoing mission to embody diversity in its various communities, international candidates and candidates from traditionally under-represented groups (e.g. women, African American, Asian and Asian America, Native America, and Latino/a, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Promise as a teacher
- Promise as a scholar
- A commitment to working with a diverse student body
- A commitment to advancing the role of under-represented groups in higher education
Position dates August 15, 2017—December 15, 2017. In addition to those applicants with terminal degrees, PhD candidates are encouraged to apply.
Description of Duties
- Teach two sections of an upper-level general education curriculum under one of the university’s categories: humanities; human society and behavior; or natural sciences. For information about LR’s Core Curriculum please visit: gen.lr.edu
- Contribute to the intellectual life on campus and in the surrounding community by delivering at least one research presentation on campus and two general public presentations to the Greater Hickory community
Benefits and Compensation
- Stipend: $3000.00 for four months--$12,000.00 total
- Living accommodations via private, fully furnished two bedroom apartment on-campus
- Meal allowance
- Research stipend for travel and other expenses related to the candidate’s project
- Private office space and administrative assistance
