POSITION TITLE & DESCRIPTION: The Department of History invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The person appointed to this position will teach courses in modern Assyrian history and lower-division World Civilizations; additional courses will be assigned on basis of expertise. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop some new courses in areas of specialization. Secondary fields are open, but those that are especially desirable would be ancient Mediterranean history or African history. Effective teaching, scholarly productivity, and service to the University are required for retention, promotion, and tenure. Assigned time and resources are available for research. This position also requires management of a special library archive related to modern Assyrian history and culture and outreach to the Assyrian community in our region
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. in History or a related field is required, with scholarly emphasis on the modern period in Assyrian history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
University-level teaching; established scholarship and compelling research program in Modern Assyrian Studies; teaching competence in one or more of the following curricular areas: ancient and modern Mediterranean history and African history; demonstrated knowledge and ability to manage and develop a Modern Assyrian Studies research archive and collateral research activity.

The Department of History currently has six full-time tenure-track faculty and two FERP faculty specializing in US, Europe, Latin America, and East Asia. We offer BA and MA degrees. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE
