The History Programme currently has a faculty strength of 13 faculty members, three postdoctoral fellows, 10 graduate students, and approximately 250 undergraduate History major students.
Tenure-track Assistant Professor in History of Comparative Religion
The History Programme invites application for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the field of History of Comparative Religion.
Degree and Area of Specialisation:
The History Programme seeks to appoint a scholar in the field of "History of Comparative Religion" with a second specialization in one or more of the following: Pre-modern, World History (Indian Ocean), Legal History, and Material Culture. We encourage applications by candidates whose research will complement our existing strength in Global Asian studies. We are expanding our focus in interdisciplinary fields including but not restricted to: anthropology, cultural studies, and environmental studies. Candidates whose research focuses on one or more world religions are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in a scholar who works on Islam and/or Buddhism. A proficiency in a Southeast or South Asian language will be an advantage.
Candidates should possess a PhD in history, religious studies, or related fields by August 2017. Candidates should also have excellent writing and oral communication skills, a strong publication record, and teaching experience.
Emoluments
Salary will be competitive and will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package.
