Job Summary:
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor to begin fall of 2017. The Department seeks candidates who specialize in Latin and Classical Studies; a secondary area of research and teaching is also desirable, though not mandatory. Modern and Classical Languages houses major and minor programs in a wide-range of literary and cultural traditions, including Chinese, Comparative Literature and Culture, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. It also offers courses in American Sign Language, Arabic, Filipino, Ancient Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, and Portuguese.
Job Responsibilities:
Job responsibilities include teaching Introductory Latin (levels 1 and 2), and Greek and Latin literature and culture in translation at the undergraduate level. The expected teaching load for this position is nine 4-unit courses over two years (2-2-2-3 over four semesters). In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop the program in Classical studies, engage in service to the department and college, as well as maintain an active research program.
Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. in Classical Studies (or ABD with completion of the degree by August 2017). Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong record in, and commitment to undergraduate teaching, a promising scholarly research program, a willingness to work in a culturally diverse environment, and an understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco.
