The Ruhr-Universität Bochum – Faculty of History – invites applications for a
Junior Professorship (W1) for the History of Violence in Modern Europe
to start on 01 April 2017.
Applicants should be able to cover the history of violence in Europe in both research and teaching and have shown an interest in new approaches with regard to both subjects and methodology. They should be prepared to conduct interdisciplinary and comparative research into the phenomena of violence in Europe as well as to contribute to furthering the methodology of research into the history of violence.
The successful candidate will be expected to work within the History Institute’s focus on the History of Violence and to contribute to its efforts to acquire third party funding.
Requirements for the position include an excellent PhD/Dissertation and evidence of special aptitude for academic teaching as well as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB. In addition, applicants are required to be enthusiastic about teaching, to contribute to the relevant research projects and to work within an interdisciplinary and international context. A further requirement is the willingness and ability to acquire third party funding and to supervise PhD candidates.
