Florida Gulf Coast University is hiring an Assistant Professor in African History. The successful candidate will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels; be involved in course and/or curriculum development; conduct research/scholarship; and participate in College and University committees and/or initiatives.

Required qualifications include: Ph.D. in History from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a specialization in Africa (any period or geographic region). Experience teaching in higher education with evidence of a student-centered focus and a commitment to pedagogical innovation. Clear evidence of active scholarship agenda. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2017. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.
Preferred Qualifications include: Ability to teach courses in Middle Eastern History and/or World History. An established record of publication. Ability to contribute to College of Arts and Sciences Global Learning Initiative, e.g. by teaching interdisciplinary courses or participating in Study Abroad programs.
Job Duties: Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in history (3/3 load), including surveys in World History and upper-level and Masters-level courses in African History. Serves on MA thesis committees. Mentors students in independent research.Conducts research in area of specialization and maintaining active scholarship portfolio. Provides service to the university, community and the discipline of history.
