Position Summary
Assistant Professor of U.S. History with a specialization in U.S. and Texas history, with the ability to teach historical methods. Additional areas of concentration may include, but are not limited to, Borderlands, and/or Southern history. A subfield in world history would be beneficial. The position is tenure-track with a 4-4 load beginning August 2017.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate must be able to teach a wide range of history courses that include historical methods, US/World surveys, and upper level history classes in their field of expertise.
Required Education
The candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in History by August 1, 2017.
Required Work Experience
The successful candidate will have at least one year of demonstrated evidence of successful teaching at the college level. The candidate will demonstrate excellence in academic scholarship and a record of creative and scholarly publication.
Preferred Qualifications
We prefer candidates who also have experience in one or more of the following areas: teaching survey level history courses, as well as a range of upper level courses, and must be prepared to teach historical methods.
Description of Job Duty
Assistant Professor of History in U.S. and Texas history: the candidate regularly will teach History Core courses, Texas history and courses in upper level US history. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.
