The College of Arts and Science at Vanderbilt University invites applications from distinguished scholars for appointment to the newly-created John L. Seigenthaler Chair in American History. Named for the civil rights champion and passionate advocate of First Amendment rights, the chair recognizes exceptional scholarship on the history of civil rights, broadly defined, and the full range of civil rights movements. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and an exemplary record of publication in humanities, social sciences or law. The final appointment will be in a department corresponding with the candidate's training and scholarship.
