~~The Jackson School of International Studies seeks an economist for a tenure track assistant professorship specializing on the Chinese economy to begin in September of 2017. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses on the Chinese economy as well as other courses in international and China studies. This individual will be expected to have a firm grasp of the historical and institutional development of the economy of the PRC, as well as the broader development of the PRC, and will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to research on the Chinese economy using Chinese languages.
The Jackson School is an interdisciplinary department, housing many of the University of Washington’s area studies programs. Most courses taught are not mathematical or quantitative. Our students are interested in large questions of development, international trade, international finance, international investment, sustainability, and the environment; the successful candidate for this position would be expected to teach to these broad general interests. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Jackson School faculty teach four courses per academic year over three quarters.
Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in economics by the date of appointment.
