Job Description:
The Department of History and Political Science at Worcester State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor specializing in African history. Regional/sub regional, thematic and chronological specializations are open. The appointment begins on September 1, 2017. Opportunities also available for teaching in the program's masters and continuing education programs online, evenings and during winter/summer terms. The successful candidate will be prepared to contribute not only to the department's current programs of study but also to the university's interdisciplinary programs in Global Studies, Ethnic Studies, and/or Women's Studies, and to further Worcester State's commitment to increasing and fostering diversity in our campus community. Service to the campus, community and profession is expected, in addition to demonstrated teaching excellence and continuing scholarship.
The History and Political Science Department at Worcester State University offers a major in History, with optional concentrations in Public History or Foreign Service, and minors in History, Middle Eastern Studies, Political Science and Pre-Law, as well as a History M.A. through the university's Division of Graduate and Continuing Education. Full-time faculty teaching load is 4/4.
Requirements:
PhD in African History or related field required by time of appointment. Ability to teach introductory courses in World Civilization plus required course in historical research methods, senior capstone seminar and courses related to area of specialization.
