Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Pennsylvania, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor |
The Department of English and the Health Medicine and Society Program (HMS) at Lehigh University welcome applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Literature and Medicine. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in Disability Studies or in literatures by or about populations inordinately affected by health disparities in the U.S. or globally (including African American, Native American, Latino/a, female, LGBT, impoverished, and working class peoples). Successful candidates must be able contribute to the English Department’s focus on Literature and Social Justice https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7391. The ability to contribute to the HMS affiliated Community Health Research Group is highly desirable (http://chrg.cas2.lehigh.edu).
Successful candidates will be productive scholars in the field of Literature and Medicine or Disability Studies with a demonstrated commitment to research and publication and a record of excellent teaching. Our faculty values projects with strong theoretical, historical, and community engagements, and many members of the English department are affiliated with interdisciplinary programs across the College. Since this is a joint appointment between the Department of English and HMS, the successful candidate will contribute equally to the two units, including teaching a core major requirement for HMS, “Medical Humanities.” This position carries a 2/2 teaching load of graduate (M.A. and Ph.D. in English) and undergraduate courses. Ph.D. in hand by date of employment.
To apply, please upload a letter of application, vita, dissertation abstract or research statement, statement of teaching philosophy, writing sample (approximately 25 pages), and three letters of recommendation to Academic Jobs Online https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7391. All materials should be received by October 24, 2016.
Questions about the position should be directed to Prof. Elizabeth Dolan (bdk3@lehigh.edu), Chair, Literature and Medicine Search Committee. We are planning to conduct Skype Interviews after Thanksgiving and campus visits in late January/early February.
The College of Arts and Sciences at Lehigh is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Lehigh University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
