Editorial Assistant, Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History

Job Summary:
This is a new grant-funded position with an initial contract for four years. As a full-time staff member, the Editorial Assistant provides editorial and administrative support to the Director and Administrative Director of the Ricci Institute for the publication of a new monograph series in collaboration with Brill Academic Publishers in Leiden, Netherlands.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Coordinating communications and follow-up among members of the editorial and advisory boards, chief editors, authors, translators, and other constituencies with the publisher in Leiden;
2. Providing assistance to the Co-editors of the series with manuscript solicitations and selection, coordinating peer reviews, administering publication workflow, and producing promotional materials;
3. Providing an initial review of submitted manuscripts (including works translated from other languages into English), conducting bibliographical research, verifying sources, and partial editing of texts, when and if necessary.
4. Assisting the Co-editors with activities related to the promotion and publication of the new series, including a series of international scholarly workshops.
5. Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
1. M.A. or equivalent in East Asian studies, preferably with expertise in history and/or comparative studies in religion, culture, or education;
2. Minimum three years of work experience in the academic publishing industry in a similar capacity and some experience in program support and coordination in an academic setting;
3. Demonstrated successful experience in providing editorial support, including bibliographical research, proofreading, fact checking, and textual editing;
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, particularly with diverse constituencies, including editorial board members, authors of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and different departments at a publishing house;
5. Detailed oriented, well organized, and a team player for projects and other academic activities.
