Washington and Lee University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the study of Islam. The appointment will be in the Departments of Religion and/or History, with course offerings divided evenly between the two. The area of specialization is open. We seek candidates with broad backgrounds and interests, able to teach a variety of courses on Islamic religion and history. Candidates must be able offer courses in History while being conversant with academic method and theory in the study of Religion. The ideal candidate can also contribute to the development of a nascent interdisciplinary program in Middle East and South Asia Studies at Washington and Lee University.
