National University of Singapore, Educator Track Position (Lecturer/Senior lecturer), to Begin in August 2016
This position is a joint appointment between the new Global Studies Program and the Department of Sociology, located in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, at the National University of Singapore. The appointment will be for 2 years. The successful candidate will teach 50% in the Global Studies program and 50% in Sociology. Preferred areas of focus include one or more of the following that will be able to add to the Global Studies curriculum: religion, ethnicity, business, transnational culture or global policy making
Successful candidates must have
- A Ph.D. in Global Studies, Sociology, Anthropology or a relevant degree, from an internationally acclaimed institution at the time of appointment.
- Excellent communication skills and dedication to academic teaching excellence and collegiality.
- A strong track record and promising trajectory in research and publication.

The Global Studies Programme is a new Faculty program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, which provides students with the background required to understand and address the challenging policy issues confronting the world today. Coupling broad, multidisciplinary education with a focus on policy and policy-making, the Programme is designed to cultivate the combination of expertise and creative, critical thinking skills that are necessary for the next generation of global leaders and citizens. Candidates must be able to contribute to the teaching of core undergraduate modules in the programme, including the introductory course GL1101E Global Issues and be willing to propose new courses of their own. Since the appointment will be shared with the Department of Sociology, the successful candidate will teach also some courses in the sociology department. The Department of Sociology is among the top sociology departments in Asia.
