The History Department at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, invites applications for the Whichard Visiting Distinguished Professorship in the Humanities. The Department seeks a distinguished historian of Southern History for appointment at the rank of Visiting Associate Professor or Visiting Professor. Duties include teaching one course per semester, giving an on-campus public presentation, and collaborating with faculty members and students in the ongoing discussion of race and historical memory in the South. The ideal candidate will contribute to the campus discussion of history, memory, race, and public commemoration. This special one-year appointment starts August 15, 2016 and ends May 5, 2017. Applicants must have a doctorate, a distinguished record of publication and demonstrate a commitment to service. Preference will be given to candidates with a particular interest in North Carolina and/or Public History.
