Washington University (WWU) seeks a Dean who fosters innovation, collegiality, inclusiveness, and diversity for its College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS). The Dean is the chief visionary of the College as well as its academic and administrative leader, providing strategic direction in an environment that is founded in faculty governance and collaborative leadership. Outreach and advocacy are critical parts of this role. A key member of the university’s central executive leadership team, the Dean reports to the Provost and works with other executive leaders and the faculty in a collaborative collective bargaining environment to implement the university’s mission. It is anticipated that the Dean will assume the office on August 1, 2016.
The College: CHSS is the largest college in the university and is composed of two divisions with 13 departments and 3 interdisciplinary programs. The College serves the university by engaging students in distinctive, diverse programs in social and behavioral sciences and the humanities. Emerging from a vibrant liberal arts core, our collaborative learning environment inspires individual, social, cultural, creative, and scientific exploration. The College consists of 290 faculty members, of which 184 are tenured or tenure-track and 106 are non-tenure track, as well as 48 staff members.
