Boston University’s Department of History of Art & Architecture invites applications and
nominations for a senior position, beginning July 1, 2016, as an associate professor or
professor, with tenure, of nineteenth-century American architecture, landscape, and
urbanism. The position, which carries a joint appointment in the American and New England
Studies Program, is for a scholar/teacher whose areas of expertise include the nineteenthcentury
architectural and urban landscape, and who can help interpret and engage the broad
outlines of Boston's distinctive architecture and urbanism. The candidate should also be
qualified to direct HAA’s Architectural Studies program and to contribute to its core
curriculum. Ph.D. required; teaching experience and publications commensurate with
appointment at the senior level.
The successful candidate will teach four courses per annum, usually two undergraduate
lecture courses and two graduate seminars; conduct research in her/his areas of
specialization; and serve as an advisor for undergraduate majors and graduate students in
both HAA and AMNESP. Applicants should submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae to
