Visiting Assistant Professor of African and African American Studies (AAS). 3-year renewable faculty position in the AAS Department of The College at Brockport (State University of New York), to start August 2016. Successful candidate must hold a PhD in Africana Studies or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in EITHER Modern African/Caribbean History and Culture OR in Contemporary African American Social Issues.
Candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach courses in their areas of expertise, as well as in introductory courses such as Institutional Racism or Introduction to African American Studies. They should also show potential for high quality scholarship and the ability to effectively mentor and advise AAS students.
The College at Brockport is a SUNY comprehensive college of 8,000 students, located 16 miles from downtown Rochester NY, and 45 miles east of Buffalo NY. The Department of African and African American Studies has actively promoted the Africana perspective on our campus since 1970, offering both a major and a minor in AAS. We seek a colleague who can help us build on that tradition and energize our program for the twenty-first century.
The teaching load for this position is four courses per semester. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. We offer a collegial and supportive environment for any African Studies scholar.
