The University of Dayton Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in U.S. cultural or U.S. economic history. The position begins on August 16, 2016. We require a PhD in U.S. history or closely related field such as American Studies completed by December 31, 2015. Applicants must have a specialty in U.S. cultural or U.S. economic history. Applicants must have a potential for excellence in research and teaching. Applicants must articulate the ability to teach HST 103 The West and the World (the Department’s introductory course in historical study required of all students at the University) in addition to upper-level history courses in area of specialty. Effective written communication skills are required. Applicants must articulate an active research agenda with preference given to applicants who can demonstrate a record of scholarship. Preference for candidates whose primary research focus is 1860-1940. Preference for applicants whose primary teaching interest is 1860-1940. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience successfully teaching undergraduates and working with students of diverse backgrounds.
