Claremont McKenna College (CMC) seeks a renowned leadership scholar to serve as Faculty Director of the Kravis Leadership Institute (KLI). Discipline is open, and includes psychology, political science, management, economics, philosophy, history, and related areas. The Faculty Director will provide overall leadership for the Institute and be responsible for KLI’s curricular (Leadership Studies Sequence) and research programs.
The Kravis Leadership Institute’s mission is to provide a center for the study and development of leadership on the CMC campus, involving students in leadership research and curricular opportunities. KLI is one of the most recognized undergraduate leadership centers in the nation. It is at the very heart of the CMC education.
The Faculty Director will oversee the strategic direction of the Institute, in consultation with KLI’s Advisory Board. The Faculty Director is assisted by the Executive Director for Leadership Programs, whose primary charge is to ensure that the Institute’s many co-curricular programs are innovative and effective at developing students’ leadership capacities. Some of the programs include various initiatives in social innovation, including the Changemaker Program (Ashoka) at CMC. The Faculty Director is also expected to assist in fundraising activities for the Institute. The Faculty Director will teach a reduced load of courses related to leadership.
The successful candidate will have an active and productive program of research in leadership, broadly defined, and be an excellent teacher. We seek a person who is capable of demonstrating competence and sensitivity in working in an environment in which students are broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic backgrounds, religion and political viewpoints. In addition, the candidate should have some administrative experience (e.g., Department Chair, Research Director, etc.), and ability to work well with a variety of constituents (e.g., faculty, administrators, students, trustees, etc.).
