The History Department of Reed College invites applications for a one-year appointment as visiting assistant professor in U.S. History and Environmental Studies for the 2016-17 academic year. The position carries a 3-2 teaching load over two semesters, including at least three environmental history courses. Teaching responsibilities also include advising yearlong senior theses in History and ES-History, and participating more broadly in Reed’s Environmental Studies Program. We encourage applications from candidates with interests in one or more of the following, in addition to environmental history: Native American history, American West, Environmental Inequalities, Transnational Studies and Borderlands, Urban History and History of Science, Medicine, and Technology.
