The Newcomb College Institute of Tulane University seeks an Administrative Assistant Professor to take responsibility for a portfolio of research and program planning relating to women’s literature and the promotion of a culture of reading among university women. Core job responsibilities include developing, planning, and teaching in a summer institute at Tulane on women’s literature; teaching one to two courses per year, in consultation with the English department; and undertaking a research and programming agenda aimed at fostering a culture of women reading women on campus. The Administrative Assistant Professor may lead development of new programming in relationship to research interests – such as a prison literary program or a conference for southern women writers.
Research areas may include:
- Research on the culture of reading and reading practices among young women
- Research on book groups
- Research on prison literacy
The Administrative Assistant Professor would also contribute to planning the current literary programs offered by the Newcomb College Institute, including the Zale-Kimmerling and Arons visiting writers programs.
We seek a candidate with a research focus on gender and women’s studies, a PhD in English or a closely related field, and familiarity with Southern women’s literature or contemporary American women’s literature.
