The School of Letters, Art and Media is a vibrant school whose pedagogic practice, research profile and external engagements are shaped by the synergistic benefits of bringing together traditional disciplines with long intellectual histories such as art history, English and linguistics with newer sub-disciplinary or interdisciplinary formations such as media and communication, museum studies, and rhetoric and composition.
The first program of its kind in Australia, the Writing Hub administers a vibrant, independent, and interdisciplinary writing program and writing centre within the School. Established in 2010 and modelled in part on the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stanford University, the Writing Hub delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses on writing and rhetoric theoretically grounded within the North American rhetorical tradition. The Writing Hub enjoys a reputation for teaching innovation and excellence within the University, and maintains a strong commitment to inclusive teaching, experiential learning, and writing across the curriculum in both physical and virtual classroom environments.
The School now seeks to appoint a full-time continuing Lecturer in Rhetoric and Composition who will make a significant contribution to the Writing Hub’s growing teaching and research programs.
In this exciting lectureship opportunity you will:
- teach undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum in Rhetoric and Composition
- provide leadership in curriculum development, including online and blended coursework delivery
- contribute to the research strengths of the school, including publishing regularly in journals of high ranking and other quality outlets, and applying for competitive research grants.
- supervise higher degree research students
- develop effective interdisciplinary collaborations within the University, across the academic field, and with external stakeholders
- contribute to academic administration
As the successful candidate you will have:
- a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or a closely related field
- a strong research record in Rhetoric and Composition, with specialization in one of the following: Writing Program Administration, Writing Centre Administration, Writing Across the Curriculum, or Professional and Technical Writing
- demonstrated success in designing, administering, and teaching a range of academic and/or professional writing courses for diverse, interdisciplinary audiences
- experience in writing program and/or writing centre administration
- the ability to supervise higher degree research students
- experience working in collaborative, team teaching contexts
- extensive experience in teaching with technology, using a range of online platforms
- the ability to work with colleagues not only in the program but also in the Faculty and University, as well as external partners in a collegial and effective manner.
