The Department of History invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Atlantic World History. The Department seeks a historian with the ability to offer courses and mentor students in the field, and whose research and teaching speak in direct ways to the common histories of the continents, islands, nations, and people that share the Atlantic basin. A focus on some aspect of slavery, black Atlantic, or African diaspora history prior to the twentieth century is desirable. Themes central to the field that complement existing strengths within the Department and University include but are not limited to transatlantic production, markets, and labor systems; globalization and capitalism; colonialism; migration; gender; law; empire; environmental history; religion; digital humanities; and health, medicine, and society. The teaching load is four courses per year. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence or the promise of excellence in both research and teaching. Completion of the Ph.D. by fall 2016 is required. The deadline for applications is September 15, 2015.
