The Asia Research Institute (ARI) was established in July 2001 as one of the strategic initiatives of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Its mission is to provide a world-class focus and resource for research on the Asian region. It engages the humanities and social sciences as broadly defined and probes the interdisciplinary frontiers between and beyond disciplines.
All positions are intended for outstanding active researchers from around the world, to work on an important piece of Asia-related research in the social sciences and humanities. Apart from the quality of research, positions will be awarded on the basis of the relationship of the research topic to ARI’s specific cluster of research.
Applicants are invited to apply for the following five types of positions (Choose only ONE):
● Senior Research Fellowships
● Research Fellowships
We are seeking full-time Senior Research Fellows and Research Fellows for commencement either in:
- or Jun/Jul 2016
- or Dec 2016/Jan 2017.
Fellows will be based at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore and will work together with the Research Leader and play active roles in the following tasks:
- Organising workshops and conferences.
- Applying for grant funding.
- Participating in current cluster projects, or carrying out a new project.
- Demonstrable progress towards publications, including a working paper.
- Administrative duties and committee work may be assigned to you from time to time.
- Assisting with the mentoring of junior research staff in the cluster.
- Active involvement in the intellectual life of ARI, including regular attendance at seminars and workshops.
Teaching is not required, however if you are interested in teaching, please indicate in the application form the area, discipline or module you would like to teach. Successful candidates may be offered a joint appointment between ARI and NUS Teaching Faculties (see FAQ section).
ELIGIBILITY
1. Interested applicants must have a PhD from a reputable university and with a
strong publication record preferably in English Language
2. Only candidates with more than 5 years of research experience after their PhD
may apply for the Senior Research Fellowship position.
● Postdoctoral Fellowships
We are seeking full-time Postdoctoral Fellows for commencement either in:
- or Jun/Jul 2016
- or Dec 2016/Jan 2017.
Fellows will be based at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore and will work under the supervision of the Research Leader and shall carry out in the following tasks:
- Organising workshops and conferences.
- Applying for grant funding.
- Participating in current cluster projects, or carrying out a new project.
- Demonstrable progress towards publications, including a working paper.
- Administrative duties and committee work may be assigned to you from time to time.

1. Candidates must have fulfilled all requirements of securing a PhD from a reputable university.
2. If you are still a PhD candidate at the point of application, you may also apply provided that you are confirmed for graduation by your commencement date at ARI. A letter from your university will be required to confirm your graduation date.

ELIGIBILITY
1. Visiting Senior Fellow appointments at ARI are intended to enable the sharing of expertise to harness world-class research capability by collaborating with senior international experts in the field.
2. The Visiting Senior Research Fellowships (Sabbatical) are intended mainly for
researchers who are in active employment of their home institution. Therefore, applicants are expected to be self-funded.
3. Candidates must have extensive research experience after their PhD and a strong publication record in the field.
4. Both positions are for a 3-month term.

3. Synopsis of the proposed research project (minimum of 2 and maximum of 10 single-lined pages)
4. At least one short sample of published work, preferably in English.
5. It is primarily your responsibility to ensure that a minimum of two letters of reference are sent to us in confidence via email reporting on the applicant’s academic standing and on the applicant’s research project by 14 August 2015.
