The American Studies Department at Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for a one-year non-tenure-track position, beginning Fall 2015. Field of specialization in the 19th Century US with emphases on cultural and intellectual history, religion, family and/or folklife in the antebellum US. The Department values intellectual diversity and supports a wide range of critical and theoretical approaches. The Department also welcomes interdisciplinarity in teaching, in keeping with the department’s longstanding emphasis on interdisciplinary liberal arts education. The teaching load is 3-3, one of which may be an introductory-level course for the major. We are seeking an individual with evidence of genuine enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate general education courses as well as courses for majors (including American cultural history surveys and electives). Qualifications: Ph.D. in American History, American Studies, Cultural Studies or a closely related field strongly preferred, although candidates who are ABD may be considered. Evidence of successful teaching experience required.
