Montgomery College (Maryland), Rockville Campus is seeking a History full-time faculty member to fill a position beginning fall 2015. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.
Assignment begins August 2015. Online applications must be received by March 30, 2015.
Starting salary range is $56,840 – 78,290 per academic year.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit and requires payment of dues or a service fee.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Faculty members are expected to teach a variety of courses offered by the History Department, including but not limited to: U.S. History survey courses, HIST 200 and HIST 201, African-American History survey courses (HIST 235 and HIST 236) and African History courses (HIST 265 and 266).
• Faculty may be asked to teach early morning, evening, weekend, off-campus, or on-line courses.
• Faculty members teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities exist for faculty to teach summer school.
• Faculty duties include serving on department, campus, and college-wide committees, advising students, maintaining an active program of professional development, and participating in professional organizations and activities.
Required Qualifications:
• Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
• Must have a Master’s degree in U.S. History with a minor in a field relevant to African-American History. Graduate coursework must include courses that reflect both depth and breadth in U.S. History and in African-American History.
• Must be able to teach a diverse student population.
• Must also be able to show that they are current in content and pedagogy in U.S. History and in African-American History
• Effectively use technology in the classroom.

Candidates will be expected to give a brief teaching demonstration if selected for an interview.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in U.S. History with a minor in a field relevant to African-American History
• Graduate work and/or teaching experience in the following fields: African History, the modern Middle East, and state/local history.
• Community college teaching experience
• Demonstrated interest in web-based or other distance education courses
