Position Summary:
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Northeastern University (http://www.northeastern.edu/llc) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair. The field of specialization is open; the appointment will be made at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.
One of seventeen departments and programs within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures has a strong commitment to comparative approaches to literatures and cultures in global perspective. Particular strengths include Cinema, Comparative Cultural Studies, Latino/a, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies (LACS), and American Sign Language (ASL). The department also collaborates with the College’s Program in International Affairs and with the Center for International Affairs and World Cultures.
The successful candidate will build on existing strengths as well as take the department in new directions, such as participation in College initiatives in Digital Humanities and partnering in interdisciplinary endeavors with other departments and programs across the University such as English, History, Middle East Studies, and Asian Studies, as well as with the World Languages Center (which provides language instruction) and the School of Business.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a PhD and be a senior faculty member who could receive tenure at Northeastern University. Candidates must demonstrate substantial administrative experience as well as a distinguished record of teaching and research in regional or cross-cultural approaches.
