The University of Maine Canadian-American Center and the Department of History invite applications for a joint academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Canadian History with a specialization in environmental history, preferably of northeastern North America, effective August 31, 2015. The tenure home for this position is in the History Department. Candidate's research interests and teaching expertise should complement the History Department's existing programs in U.S. and European history.
Annual teaching responsibilities ordinarily include two Canadian Studies courses for the Canadian-American Center, and two courses for the History Department at the undergraduate or graduate level. The position will eventually involve administration and grant-writing responsibilities at the Canadian-American Center, for which the teaching load will be adjusted accordingly.
- A Ph.D. in an appropriate field is required by date of hire.
- Demonstrated scholarship and teaching experience are required.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Administrative experience and a record of success in external funding are preferred.
The History Department offers BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees. Further information about the Department can be found at http://www.umaine.edu/history/. The Canadian-American Center is a U.S. federally funded National Resource Center on Canada, one of only two in the United States. The Center is internationally known for its scholarship on Canada and Canadian-American relations.
