Kehillah Jewish High School, Jewish Studies
Dean of Jewish Studies
|Institution Type:||Preparatory School|
|Location:||California, United States|
Coupling the best of the Silicon Valley mindset with rich traditions and deep Jewish values, Kehillah Jewish High School provides an exceptional academic program in the context of a supportive community that empowers students with the knowledge and strength to flourish in a rapidly changing world. It is our charge to provide our graduates with the skills and insight to succeed and find their place as adults in the Jewish community and the world-at-large.
Kehillah Jewish High School is seeking a Dean of Jewish Studies that has the skills and capacity to advance our Jewish Studies program.
The successful candidate for this position will have a passion for Jewish education at the high school level. The Dean of Jewish Studies will work in an integrated manner with the Head of School, Principal, the Jewish Studies Department, Director of Community Life and Learning, and in an inter-departmental capacity to craft a Jewish Studies program that provides students with knowledge and depth of understanding of the Jewish tradition, Jewish history, and Jewish thought, and that is responsive to recent and contemporary trends in Jewish life and learning.
We are looking for a talented educator that will be mindful of the concentric circles of the Silicon Valley, Bay Area, American, and global Jewish communities in crafting our Jewish Studies program. The successful candidate will ground the program in these overlapping contexts to support our students as they explore their relationships with these different layers of the Jewish community.
This new focus will result in the development of a program of study that will emphasize the knowledge, skills, and experiences that will support our students as they begin to navigate the meaning of their membership in the Jewish community.
In addition to comfort with classical Jewish texts and a deep understanding of Jewish history and thought, the successful candidate will be familiar with recent and contemporary scholarly conversations related to Jewish identity, will be attentive to scholarly publications, sociological studies, and other platforms for understanding Jewish life in a contemporary American context. He/She will be able to guide the Jewish Studies department (and others, where appropriate) in introducing this material in ways that are guided by a re-thinking of the purpose and goals of text-based and thematic Jewish Studies classes.
We are looking for a Dean of Jewish Studies that has the passion, knowledge, training, skills, and vision to take a leading role in the development of a unique high school Jewish Studies program that will become a model for other schools all over the country.
