The Department of Integrative Studies at Miami University invites applications for a tenure- track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level on our regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, OH. Miami University Regionals (Hamilton, Middletown, Voice of America Learning Center, and Green Tree Academy), with a total of 5,516 students, are commuter campuses located in an urban setting close to both Cincinnati and Dayton. The campuses have a strong connection to the main campus in Oxford, as well as to the communities they serve.
This position requires teaching at the undergraduate level in the Department of Integrative Studies (http://www.regionals.miamioh.edu/is/index.htm) and allied programs. Additional duties include maintaining an active program of scholarship and providing meaningful service to the Integrative Studies Department, regional campuses, students (including advising of majors), community, and university. Appointment will be in the newly created College of Professional Studies and Applied Sciences.
Required: A PhD required by the time of appointment, as well as a strong background or interest in integrative/interdisciplinary teaching, curriculum development, and research; promise of scholarly productivity; and commitment to community development and service.
Desired: In addition, candidates with the following qualifications are particularly encouraged to apply: 1) commitment to experiential and inquiry-based learning across traditional academic disciplines and ability to teach trans-disciplinary research methods, 2) strong background in applied social sciences, natural sciences or international/global studies, 3) applied skills, public scholarship, civic engagement, international and policy experience and ability to teach courses related to one or more of the following: public health, development, conservation and environmental studies, food systems, sustainability, development economics, resettlement, conflict management, human rights, GIS, 4) applied international background and research experience: Latin American, African or Caribbean, or Pacific Rim regions, and 5) collaboration with new and developing 4-year regional campus degree programs in community and regional development, applied social sciences, nursing and public health.
