The Department of Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies invites applications from qualified candidates for two (2) one-year Sessional Assistant Professor positions in Humanities. The positions will contribute to the Department’s Religious Studies offerings. For one of these appointments, preference will be given to candidates with scholarly training in classical Judaica (biblical and/or rabbinic and/or medieval) and the successful candidate will have knowledge of Hebrew and may be asked to teach one course in Hebrew language or literature in York’s Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics. For the second position, preference will be given to candidates with scholarly training in modern religious thought and/or modern comparative religion. A PhD in Philosophy, History, Literature, Religious Studies, Jewish Studies or a related field, demonstrable excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, and an active research program in a relevant area are required. The successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of, and a commitment to, the goals and methods of General Education. These appointments carry a teaching load of three full courses or the equivalent.
