The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position as an assistant professor of modern European history in the Department of History in the College of Arts and Letters to begin in fall 2014. The appointment is located at the university’s Gulf Park campus overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in Long Beach, Mississippi. All areas of specialization in modern European history are acceptable, with Britain and British Empire included. Candidates with research agendas that employ transnational approaches are preferred.
Responsibilities will include a 3/3 teaching load of world and European history surveys, upper-level and graduate courses in field of expertise, and directing theses and dissertations in a doctorate-granting department. The successful candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda and contribute to the department’s service obligations. Minimum qualifications are a doctorate in history by time of appointment and promise of excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
