Senior Preceptor in Ottoman and Modern Turkish

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University seeks applications for the position of Senior Preceptor in Ottoman and Modern Turkish Language, beginning in the academic year 2014-2015. The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2014, and is renewable every five years contingent upon performance, enrollments and curricular needs. The Senior Preceptor will be able to teach Ottoman and modern Turkish language at all levels, in addition to coordinating language courses and the training and supervision of teaching fellows and teaching assistants.
Minimum degree requirement is a master’s degree in appropriate field. Native or near-native proficiency in Turkish and English is required. Candidates should have experience teaching language at all levels and in using technology in the second language classroom.
Candidates should have professional expertise in teaching language at all levels, as well as familiarity with theories of second language acquisition/applied linguistics. Experience in post-secondary teaching, including curriculum design, supervision of teaching assistants, undergraduate advising and experience with study abroad programs is desirable.
