The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Pace University, New York, invites nominations and applications for an anticipated tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the upcoming 2014-15 academic year, with expertise in the nonprofit sector. Candidates from a wide range of social science disciplines, with expertise in grass roots organizations, advocacy, civil society, human rights, NGOs, and/or public policy directed to these areas will be considered. Expertise in the area of gender and a demonstrated commitment to Women's Studies as a discipline (a graduate degree, graduate certificate and/or coursework in Women's Studies) are preferred, as well as a commitment to both high quality research and teaching.
The department currently has approximately 40 undergraduate majors and five faculty, with a larger number of faculty teaching cross-listed courses each year. The course load is 3-3 undergraduate courses per year. Because the current expertise of the department lies primarily in the humanities and cultural studies, we seek scholars with strengths in the interdisciplinary social sciences. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Affairs, Sociology, Public Administration, or related fields, and an active research agenda. A demonstrated ability to obtain external grant support is highly desirable.
The faculty member appointed to this position will develop new courses for our students to support a combined B.A. /M.P.A. degree program in Women’s Studies and Public Administration. The successful candidate will teach courses such as feminist theories, feminist research methods, and are welcome to develop courses in other areas of our major and Queer Studies minor. Course assignments may include Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies; Gender, Race, and Class; or supervision of student internships in the nonprofit sector. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, advising students, participating in program development, and committee service at all levels of university governance. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum.
