|Institution Type:||College / University|
|Location:||New Jersey, United States|
Rowan University’s Psi Iota branch of Phi Alpha Theta (PAT), the national history honors society, is sponsoring a fellow-in-residence position for the Spring Semester 2014. The position is designed for an A.B.D. candidate finishing doctoral work in 20th Century American History but is also available to recent Ph.D.’s. Fellows will receive an office with a computer, access to the University’s libraries and databases, secretarial support, a modest fund for research or travel related expenses, and a combination of salary and honorarium totaling at least $6,000. The Fellow’s compensation might reach as much as $9,750, depending upon whether the Fellow teaches in the Summer of 2014. Fellows will be expected to deliver a lecture and an overview of their research for an audience of undergraduates in history. Furthermore, Fellows will have the opportunity to share a chapter or other in-progress research with faculty members in the History Department’s works-in-progress seminar. Fellows will be expected to interact with the Psi Iota branch of PAT at Rowan. Fellows will teach one or two upper division courses in their area of specialty. In the Spring, the course will be United States History since 1945 (with a maximum of 25 students). In the summer of 2014, they may teach a course on a topic of their choice in the specialty (with a maximum of 22 students).
Prospective Fellows should send a copy of their curriculum vitae, sample syllabi or course outlines for their proposed upper division courses, graduate school transcripts (or an unofficial transcript with a list of courses completed in graduate school), one letter of recommendation, a list of at least two additional references, and any other supporting materials the candidates believe the committee will find helpful.
The committee will begin reviewing applications on 15 November 2013 and hopes to make a final decision by 9 December. Candidates may accept this fellowship in conjunction with another fellowship so long as it does not interfere with this fellowship’s requirements.
