Department of Japanese Studies
The Department invites applications for two faculty posts at Assistant Professor rank with prospect for substantiation. Applicants should (i) possess a relevant PhD degree; (ii) specialize in the following areas: Japanese sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, media studies, literature, education, urban studies, political science, international relations, gender studies or other related fields; (iii) be dedicated to teaching; (iv) have an excellent record of research with a record of successful grant applications; (v) be able to work well as a team member; and (vi) be native or near native fluency in English and Japanese. Candidates capable of inter-disciplinary, comparative, and transnational research are particularly welcome. Duties include (a) teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (b) project coordination; (c) mentoring students; and (d) committee work. Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing mid-August 2014, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later. Review of applications will begin in November 2013 and will continue until the posts are filled.
